The Shoe Design and Production Program within the Vocational School of Technical Sciences at Konya Technical University holds the distinction of being the first program in Turkey to be established in this field during the 2006-2007 academic year. The program stands out for its pioneering approach in education and for training professionals suited to meet industry needs. Throughout their education, students not only develop their design skills but also have the opportunity to experience every stage of the shoe production process. In addition to industrial applications, students enhance their vision by working on experimental designs, supported by artificial intelligence applications. The department provides students with hands-on education through its in-house shoe and design workshops. Moreover, cutting-edge software used in the computer labs enables students to acquire advanced digital design skills.

One of the greatest advantages of the Shoe Design program is that it is the only educational institution in Turkey using ICAD 3D software. This software is a globally recognized advanced tool in shoe design, providing students with a significant edge as they step into the professional world. From shoe mold design to sole design and pattern creation, the advanced training with ICAD 3D contributes to graduates becoming more sought-after and valued as skilled labor in the industry. This distinction places the program’s graduates ahead in the field, greatly enhancing their employment opportunities.

Konya is one of Turkey’s leading cities in footwear production, with a daily average production of 150,000 pairs of shoes and around 2,500 businesses involved in the shoe and related industries. The city is also recognized for being one of the most advanced in terms of mechanization in the footwear industry. In Konya, 72% of the footwear produced is men’s shoes, and only 5% of the workforce in the industry holds a university degree, highlighting the need for a more educated workforce.

The Shoe Design and Production Program is tailored to nurture students’ creativity to the fullest, turning their ideas into tangible products. The curriculum is predominantly design-oriented, fostering the creation of aesthetically and functionally superior footwear. The program’s academic staff is composed of highly qualified educators with extensive experience, further enhanced by the prestige of being part of the first program of its kind in Turkey. This experienced faculty ensures that students graduate as well-rounded professionals, equipped with both technical and design expertise.

The program offers students the opportunity to transform their dreams into reality, aiming to produce individuals who make a significant impact in the industry. Through various shoe competitions and fashion shows organized by the department, students can showcase their talents, while projects in collaboration with the industry provide them with real-world experience. Additionally, the department’s participation in footwear fairs, where student designs are displayed, prepares them for their future careers by giving them valuable exposure.

The footwear industry is an ever-growing field with constant demand. Therefore, graduates from this program enjoy a wide range of job opportunities in both the public and private sectors. The program’s mission is to train the designers of tomorrow, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in their careers and succeed as leaders in the industry.
